Lymara's Disease - The Drow Empathy Affliction



Drow are known for their cruelty, cunning, and absolute lack of empathy. However, in rare and whispered tales, there are those afflicted by a mysterious condition known as "Lymara's Disease." This affliction causes the affected Drow to experience emotions such as kindness, mercy, empathy, and even love – emotions that are utterly foreign to their society.


Type: Mental Affliction


Cause: Parasitiforme Ixodida, Metastigmata, (aka tick).


Symptoms:


Emotional Overload: Afflicted Drow often find themselves overwhelmed by these newfound emotions, making them unable to carry out cruel acts or participate in the usual treacherous plots of Drow society.


Empathic Link: Afflicted Drow have an involuntary empathic link with other sentient beings, making it difficult to ignore the suffering of others and feel compelled to help those in need.


Conflict of Loyalties: The afflicted Drow may experience inner turmoil and a growing sense of loyalty towards non-Drow individuals, causing them to question their allegiance to the ruthless Drow society.


Social Stigma:


Within Drow society, the existence of those afflicted with Lymara's Disease is vehemently denied. They are considered abominations, their existence an affront to the traditional Drow way of life. The society views them as contagious carriers of weakness. and is determined to eradicate them to preserve their dark, merciless culture.


Treatment: Extermination


Drow society does not recognize Lymara's Disease as a legitimate condition. Instead, they consider it a dangerous heresy. Traditional Drow society enforces a brutal "cure" which usually involves isolating and ultimately executing the afflicted Drow to prevent the spread of their empathy and emotions.


Roleplaying Considerations:


Struggle: Characters afflicted with Lymara's Disease face an inner struggle between their newfound empathy and their upbringing in a ruthless society. This can lead to intense character development and role-playing opportunities.


Hidden Identity: Afflicted Drow often hide their true feelings, concealing their emotions to avoid detection by their own kind.


Redemption Quest: Some afflicted Drow may choose to leave their oppressive society in search of a cure or redemption for their kind.
