Recap 19: Descent

People make mistakes—the crew of the Invictus is no exception. What we thought was a good idea was riddled with danger and disaster. We had cut off bits and pieces of us to stage our destruction. We had let a Bounty Hunter rig a bunch of explosions in a HIGHLY secured area where a creature that could destroy the Universe was currently locked up and protected. Looking back on it, we were dumb. As the fireball shot through the lower levels of the Absalom Station, the elevator shaft we were ascending in was encased in a fiery rush of backdraft. We plummeted as the emergency brakes strained to grab hold. We found ourselves in a precarious spot, held in suspension between two floors. Joy couldn't get any barrings as to where we were in the shaft. Then, there was a thud and some unnatural scratching at the elevator casing. The next thing we knew a bag of our gathered bits and pieces was laid at our feet. All our plans were destroyed in an instant while an unknown hunter above us played cat and mouse. And boy, were we caged mice.

Goblina threw a tornado grenade up through the access panel to take out our pursuer. It caused momentary havoc but also dislodged us. Tybar quickly plunged his weapon into the door landing it as a brace between the top of the elevator and the bottom of a floor. Joy, Vydrion, and Ashara crawled through an opening on top of the elevator to access the floor above the elevator. Then Chanterelle accessed the lower floor below the elevator. The party was now split between three locations and the blast doors were crashing down. Nothing was going as planned. And then a voice, from the not too distant past called out to Ash. Oh Mother. But which one, and did it matter? Joy and Ash's mom hacked and hacked to keep the barricades open hoping to get the rest of the party safely off of the unstable elevator. The crew in the elevator had to deal with the Bounty Hunter Pall and his continuous pursuit while avoiding plummeting to their deaths. Tybar was most at risk, having been dealt a blow by Pall. He now had multiple punctures in his arm that was not healing. Goblina, in an act of devoted protection of Tybar, punched Pall in the nether regions, but her hand was meet by a liquid, fluid substance instead of a solid mass of body as expected. Pall is not your typical Bounty Hunter. Chanty added her help using a mind thrust on the attacker from the safety of her floor, but it seemed the damage Pall wanted to inflict had already been done.

However, Joy, Ash and Vydrion were not out of the clear on their floor. As Joy continued to hack at the blast doors, a whistling tune could be heard approaching the trio from the deep blackness down the corridor. An errier whistle that sent a chill of forbearance up one's spine. What greeted them was more startling than anyone could have imagined. A beautiful being graced them with an indescribable sugary sweetness. She introduced herself to Vydrion as Cassiope, the same name as his beloved girlfriend. Ash was immediately smitten, all thoughts of Bubblegum erased as she was captivated by this vision. Even Joy, an iron will of a gnome couldn't resist the charms of this woman. In fact, when all the crew members were safely off the elevator and onto stable grounds, each and every one of us gladly followed her to her awaiting shuttle with hearts in our eyes.

Join us next time to see what dire straights our crew has found themselves in with an unknown woman who seems to be able to control others with just the flick of her hair.
