Where we last left off, the crew of the Invictus was gathered in the backroom of Bubblegum's bar, The Cantina, listening to the final, recorded words of Dr. William Pratt. Unbeknownst to them, they were being observed by one Vydrion Loutré.
Vydrion Loutré is a Brenneri Operative, a trained Bounty Hunter. He was hired, along with several other Bounty Hunters, by the Drow to bring in the crew of the Invictus dead or alive. A gifted diplomat, loved by those he works with, Vydrion doesn't have to solve every situation through violence. This sets him apart from other bounty hunters who shoot first and rarely ask questions. But don't mistake his calm and empathetic demeanor for passivity. After all, he made quite the name for himself while working alongside his mentor of 5 years. This isn't his first rodeo.
Speaking of shooting first, as the crew was deciding their next moves, a metallic thunk was heard, and the room was filled with smoke. Goblina, throwing herself on the object, was blinded and disoriented by the grenade. The rest of the crew went automatically to the offensive. Joy tuned on the invisibility cloak she absconded from faux-Lilith. Ash coyly hid behind Bubblegum while Tybar went to face the attacker head-on. However, Vydrion seemed to have targeted the giant Vesk as the leader of the group, so Tybar had to disentangle himself from the pesky otter before facing the more deadly threat that was open firing inside the main bar.
Joy, without being able to be detected, passed along the target's position to Ash. However, by the time Ash was ready to shoot, one of our team members had stepped in front of her line of sight. Ash moved to a more vulnerable location, took aim, and fired her new firearm, the Noisy Cricket. It basically threw Ash to her butt, and she shot Bubblegum. Chaos ensued. People were fleeing, though the barmaid continued to clean up her area and wipe down clean glasses. Even the bard in the corner continued to play his set as deadly ammunition flew around the room. At one point, Bubblegum picked up the arcade game against the wall and threw it on top of our attacker. Joy managed to throw a knife into the hand of the persistent bounty hunter, and Goblina, after running into a few walls before becoming coherent again, sent Cherry to retrieve the gun the guy dropped. The bounty hunter summoned his construct, a fierce mechanical dog. Joy hacked into the machine and took over command in no time flat. The Bounty Hunter had to leave it's armor in order to attack. He was a insect-like creature who didn't stand a chance against us.
Vydrion informed us that he, along with the creature we just sent to its demise, were just two of the five Bounty Hunters tracking us down. We decided we needed to get off of the Absalom Station, but we still needed to complete Dr Pratt's dying wish to get the Professor, who's life the Dr had sacrificed his own to save. We headed back to the medical bay, where Professor Henshaw was recovering. We offered him our services to take him where he needed to be, but he informed us, this is where he needed to be. That a cultist was at this very moment in the depths of the Station trying to summon a great abomination and we needed to stop it!
We took off with Prof. Henshaw explaining along the way. We were going to send part of the crew back to Vicky to get her up and running so we could escape quickly, but discovered Bubblegum's shop had been compromised and the Drow had the Invictus in their grasps. Vicky was able to get us one last communication to us and told Ash to run. To not to follow her, that she would seek Ash out when it was safe. Before Ash could go off and get herself killed and Vicky erased, Joy sedated her and had Bubblegum bring her into the elevator to get to the center of the Station.
We arrived too late. The zealot cultist had succeeded in waking up the Devourer. This creature immediately consumed the cultist to kick off its regeneration process. Some of the team rushed forward to attack, while others stayed back determining the next steps. Prof. Henshaw advised we blow up the Absalom Station. There is a reason the former planet that used to occupy this space is no more. Join us on our next adventure to see how the crew of the Invictus resolve this current crisis. Do they sacrifice themselves and countless millions to save the universe, or do they risk destroying the fabric of time trying to save themselves.
