Our engines were dormant, the power extinguished, we were adrift, suspended in weightlessness, our very breath crystallizing in the frigid air. A shroud of magic, woven by Goblina offered some respite from the encroaching bitter cold. Our plan was to hide in the asteroid belt of a nearby gas giant, keeping the planet between us and our pursuers. However, fate had other plans. Impact after impact rocked the Invictus, shattering the delicate balance of our sanctuary and sending us tumbling.
The group, in an instant, knew that there was more to the impacts than just astroids floating by. Without saying a word to each other, we decided as one that we had to leave rather than sit there waiting for whatever was out there to come in. However, when we went to exit the safety of the bridge, we were stopped by a faulty door. It was binding in its casing. Tybar used his sword to try and pry it, by that time we could hear screeching and scampering within the ship. Something had indeed breached our hull. Ash had a power pack that allowed us to get the door open, just in time to be attacked by a monstrosity. A creature so scarred, bloody, and mutilated it was beyond recognition.
Joy was attacked and blinded by the venom it had spat in her eye, but that didn't stop her from casting ghost noises to lead it off into a different part of the ship. Chanty caught a glimpse of a creature that was the size of a large dog and followed it into the vent system. Ash, Goblina, and Benny were going to stay behind while Tybar and Joy went to reboot Vicky manually. However, that is when a disgusting, gelatinous piece of slobber fell onto Ash's cheek from up above, right before the creature dropped its entire self right onto her head.
These things, these vial creatures, had pulled up to the Invictus and made their way into the ship any way they could. Their ship brought with it levels of radiation that would eventually kill us all. Their voice rose up in an arcane chant and a fog enveloped both vessels. A little girl's giggle was heard from off in the distance. One of the invaders and its buddies grabbed Chanty and dragged her back to their ship. They had devoured one of her fingers, not caring that she was poisonous to them. She only managed to escape using her mind-thrust abilities. More creatures attacked Ash and Goblina, hearing Ash scream, he ran back to defend her. As he was being attacked, Goblina went into a rage and wildly bit and clawed the attacker's face. Saying something in Golblin along the lines of "he is mine!"
Joy continued with her plan to get Vicky back online, but was surrounded by the enemy, she dove into Benny's shuttle to buy herself time. They found her and they were bashing and rocking the shuttle. The strain on the hull was too much, the shuttle couldn't stand up to too much more abuse. Joy decided to electrify the outer shell, but she discovered Benny had already made the alterations and all she had to do was flip the switch. The remaining creatures left standing were swiftly knocked down with the shuttle as Joy drove it about the cargo bay. That gave her enough time to power on Vicky and get her self-healing again. In the meantime, the ominous chant of these beings echoed throughout the ship, and on the bridge a small girl appeared to Ash and in a sing-song voice called out Mommy. Ash did not like what was happening, not one bit. Vicky released a toxin into the air that we were immune to thanks to Goblina's life bubbles. With that, the connection to the summoned girl was severed. She disappeared and the vessel took off.
Join us next time as our now terrified crew continues to make their way to the Absalom Station, after all, they still need to deliver William to his appointment.
