Nickname: Bubblegum
Real Name: Unknown
Age: 25
Bubblegum is a towering and muscular man, standing at 6’10" and weighing 345 lbs. His skin is covered with scars and tattoos, and muscles that feel like corded steel cables under his skin. His eyes are dark and piercing. He has a deep, gravelly voice which he uses to sing at a club that he partially owns, called The Cantina. He loves to sing and is surprisingly good. He often performs at the club and has attracted a small, but loyal fan base who appreciate his unique style and charisma.
Bubblegum grew up poor on Absalom Station in a rent-controlled building where, as a young adult, he lived with his sister and her three children. She was a drug addict who ended up abandoning her kids, leaving Bubblegum to take care of them. He worked as an apprentice at a nearby repair shop, where he developed a passion and talent for fixing and customizing various machines. He is gentle and kind, despite his imposing appearance, and he loves his family dearly.
One day, his life changed forever. A crime family wanted to demolish the rent-controlled building where he and his family lived, to make way for a new development. They had bribed or coerced most of the tenants to leave, but Bubblegum and a few other tenets refused to give up their homes. This was mostly out of necessity due to it being the only place they could afford. The crime family decided to use force and set fire to the building while he was working a mandatory double shift. When Bubblegum heard the news, he ran into the burning building to save his family. Though badly burned, he managed to rescue one of his adopted daughters, but the other two children perished in the flames. The smoke and chemicals damaged his vocal cords, giving his already deep voice an unnatural and distinctive growl.
Bubblegum was angry and heartbroken. He knew who was responsible for the fire, and he wanted justice. He went to confront the gang members who had torched his building. He only intended to scare them into confessing to the police. After seeing their smug faces, he snapped. He unleashed his full strength on them, not holding back for the first time in his life. He tossed them around like ragdolls, in a scene of broken bones and blood. In just a few moments, all the gang members were either dead or crippled for life.
Bubblegum was arrested and sentenced to life in prison. He was assigned to do hard labor at a maximum-security facility, notorious for its brutality and corruption. There, he was approached by the rivals of the gang he had eliminated during the one brief moment he had lost control. They offered him a deal; if he worked for them as an enforcer, they had people who could get him out of prison on a legal technicality. They promised him he would not have to kill anyone, just rough them up on occasion. Having him by their boss’s side, with his reputation, was a very valuable thing. They also offered him enough money to buy one of those large and expensive repair shops on Absalom Station, and even cover his expenses for the first two years until his business picked up. After all, they said,
“the number one reason businesses fail in the first few years is undercapitalization.”
He missed his adopted daughter terribly and felt guilty for not being there for her. So, Bubblegum agreed to the deal, seeing no other way out of his situation. He thought, at least he would be with his family. While he was in prison, his sister had decided that she wanted to be a mother after all and regained custody of her surviving daughter. She then disappeared with her daughter, leaving no trace or contact information. She only left a note justifying her actions by saying...
"Like all men, you are toxic, violent, and now a murderer. You're completely worthless, and you would never have amounted to anything, even before all this. I'm only acting in the best interest of "my" daughter. If you ever had any love for her, you will stay away and not try to find us."
-Kirsikka Bubblegum had no idea where they had gone, or how they were doing. He was no stranger to pain, but never had he been hurt so badly. He was released from prison and became an enforcer for the crime family, working for them for five years. Bubblegum was trapped in a cycle of violence and regret. He felt crimpling guilt for the people he had killed that night of the fire, and those he had hurt during his time as an enforcer. He hated violence and bloodshed, but he had no choice but to obey his boss’s orders. He tried to justify his actions by telling himself that they were bad people who deserved it, and most were. Regardless, he was still hurting people, and he hated himself for it.
After his five-year commitment, he left the criminal life behind and now focuses on his legitimate business. He bought his own repair shop, Serenity Repair & Custom Fabrication, where he continues to work. The shop is thriving and he is renowned for his impressive workmanship. He finds some solace in singing at a bar called The Cantina, where he can express himself and forget his troubles for a while. He has also made some friends among the staff and patrons of the club, who accept him for who he is and not what he did.
Bubblegum is a complex and conflicted character, who has a good heart but a dark past. He is loyal and protective of those he cares about. He is talented and passionate about music and is a master mechanic. His dreams are haunted by guilt, and his heart is broken over the loss of his children. He loved being a dad more than anything, but peace, love, and family were things he could not hold onto, no matter how strong his grasp.
Why is he called Bubblegum? That’s something you’re going to have to ask him yourself.
